A few weeks ago, I shared a post about play and asked y’all for your help with building out a list and you came through. I am so proud of the people who put themselves out there and shared what they are doing to foster play, joy and imagination.
Here is the list:
Monique Malcolm hosts a weekly live Hobby Hour on her YouTube channel on Wednesdays where she invites people to pause, play and create just for joy.
The Book of Delights by Ross Gay and because this book was so well received, he wrote another book called The Book of (More) Delights.
Joyce J. Scott is artist and educator, who is most well known for her work in jewelry, beadwork, and glass. Her art reflects her take on all aspects of American popular culture, her ancestry, and her community.
Alencia Johnson is an award-winning leader at the intersection of social impact and culture change. She wrote a book called Flip the Tables as a guide for those who want to be disruptors and have been told they cannot change the world, even though they know otherwise.
Dr. Dana Williams Johnson is a Marketing professor at Howard University, a knitter and she fosters joy and fun. I found her blog Yards of Happiness and she makes me want to take up knitting and make small sweaters for tiny dogs.
Jeff Harry shows individuals and companies how to tap into their true selves to feel their happiest and most fulfilled — all by playing. Count me in!
Thank YOU!
I’m truly grateful for all the kind messages about my zine, it’s giving mood, and for the encouragement to keep creating.
Honestly, I made it just for me. I had no plans to share it. But, as I’ve been exploring analog living, play, and the practice of joy, I realized it might spark something in someone else, too.
Because when it comes down to it, how we choose to see, feel, and express joy is always up to us. It’s not anyone else’s job to make us feel good. That’s something we get to create for ourselves.
I’m keeping this message short, as I would love for you to explore the list I shared and let these people spark play, joy and creativity in you. And, if you have people you would like to recommend, please share them in the comments. I am always looking to expand the list.
You already know how I feel about you, my friend! I am once again in awe of your creative bravery! Congratulations on the launch of your zine!
Please add Karen Walrond to your list; author of The Lightmaker's Manifesto, Radiant Rebellion, and In Defense of Dabbling!!
